We think we cracked this medieval dog scale. It's divided into three groups of three numbers, in an increasing rate of madness:
1 through 3 are relatively regular mood representers. 1 is “The dog who stares and knows exactly 0.8 things in any certain moment”. 2 is “Umm… do you want water? I don't know what to do here” sort of dog. 3 is the dog in a deep focus on something else while the meeting is Still. Going. On. Oh, gosh.
Then you have 4 through 6. This is where the madness mood starts to kick in for real. 4 is standing in front of the fridge (the plant), only to either order takeout or drink water. 5 is the dog stuck inside a golden cage, not knowing what life outside is like. 6 is the one who has had one, two, or seven too many cups of coffee today.
And then 7 through 9 is… well… if you identify with any of these, we're so sorry, we don't have any way to help you right now. 7 is a fever dream, 8 is wanting the ground to swallow you in an uncomfortable social situation, and 9 is experiencing the existential doom every living thing must face.

Dogs have earned the title of “best friend” not through marketing, but through thousands of years of proven loyalty. Humans and dogs have lived side by side for at least 15,000 years, and along the way, dogs evolved a remarkable ability to understand us - reading our gestures, following our gaze, and even recognizing our emotions.
Studies show dogs can distinguish happy from angry human faces and often respond differently depending on our mood. They’re also wired for social bonding, producing oxytocin - the same attachment hormone humans release with loved ones - when they interact with their people. That means when your dog stares at you like you hung the moon, their brain is literally saying “This is my person”. Add their enthusiasm for shared adventures, unwavering loyalty, and talent for turning ordinary days into tail-wagging celebrations, and it’s no mystery why dogs consistently rank as humanity’s most devoted companions.
